NSTeens: A Program of the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children www.nsteens.org
This website is a resource to help provide education through games, bios, comics, and activity cards on internet safety. There is a whole section on this site for cyberbullying and how to participate safely using IM, chat rooms, and social websites as well as information on texting. The website layout is very tween/teen friendly and although there is an educators side, it is not obvious that it is meant as a teaching resources. All the bios and scenarios feature tweens/teens thus relating nicely to the intended users of the site. All aspects of the site aim to create a discussion about internet safety. I really liked this site and found it very informative and forward thinking. I would recommend this site to just about any tween because it doesn’t feel like you are being lectured or that the sites goal is to educate. Instead through the use of first person narratives the important messages and concepts are introduced and solutions are suggested in an appropriate manner. I found this site from the many resources listed in the bullying books I reviewed and the bullying blogs on the internet.
Audience Level: Grades 6 – 12
